The Science of Packaging Cushioning

Packaging cushioning can be a great thing. But sometimes, too much can happen.  Cushioning of packaging can be a bit of a challenge, as it can help with shock absorption. However, too much is viewed as wasteful. You do need packaging cushioning. With this, you’ll be able to rustle the packaging about, in order to keep it safe. Think of it like a foam insert that will help with ensuring that the packaging stays all in one place. Doing so can be a bit of a challenge, especially for a lot of people. Shock absorption is a big thing as well.   It will help reduce the jostles and shocks, making it a big problem for those who are shipping to places where the packages are not treated as nicely.  The best thing for you to do with such packaging, is to make sure that it gets to the customer in one piece. And, with the right void fill, you make that and so much more happen.

The common Mistakes with Void Fill

Void fill offers a lot of common mistakes. Some of these might be easy to spot. Overstuffing is one of them. this is where packaging has the void fill sticking in there far too much, and by stuffing it, it becomes a problem, as it’s all pushed in together. Again, with this, it can sometimes be a little bit hard for people to open it, and it looks incredibly wasteful. On the flip side, you have under-padding. This is where you don’t put enough padding in. this can include padding of the packaging in a manner where it’s easy to hold it, but not enough to protect it. or maybe, the padding isn’t fitting for the environment it’s going into.  Both of these result in major issues with the cushioning, and sometimes, finding that right middle ground is the real challenge.

The Different Void Fill Types

You have a variety of different void fill types for you to choose from. Bubble wrap wraps around the item. It tends to be good for items that need the sides to be protected, gut it is a little bit limited.  There’s also foam inserts, which are inserts made of foam, placed directly into the item. Again, with this, it tends to weigh a bit more and be seen as a little more wasteful, but a lot of people like this one, simply because foam is strong and it offers extra cushioning.

Finally, you have corrugated dividers. These are good for multiple items, separating them, to make it better.

The Use of Smart Sensors

Some companies are also using smart sensors. These are sensors that will tell you if something is banged or jostled, and again, it can be used to help with protection of such packaging. It can measure the impact, so that if you have something messed up, it can be optimized and changed so it won’t be affected during shipping.

How to Optimize the Packaging without Increasing Weight

The best thing to do, is to optimize the packaging so it fits the same dimensions. Using foam is good because it models into the item. Bear in mind, however, that it is not as ecofriendly. However, there are biodegradable foams that will play a part. With a lot of corrugated dividers and the like, adding a little bit of cushion such as paper and the like might also work. Overall, assess how customers like the packaging, and make decisions based on their feedback, in order to foster the ultimate success of the packaging incentive.

Why the Interior of Box Packaging Matters

Box packaging is important, and while the outside protects, the inside is just as important. Why? Aesthetics and security.   Many times, with the aesthetics correct on the inside, customers can feel even more excited about the contents, and generate a buzz that will have people hankering for so much more from their boxes and different types of components. Here, we’ll go over the importance of the inside, along with interior box packaging trends that are becoming all too popular for a variety of reasons.

New Trends Inside

There are a few interior trends that will play a major part in the box packaging inside. One of them is the inserts that are put in there. inserts allow you to put various incentives in there. Whether it’s a freebie, a coupon code, or even just something for more information, it’s all in there and it works great for those types of experiences.  There’s also patterns on the inside of the packaging, which can be used to show all sorts of unique features. Partners play a major part in the success of a package, because with the right patterns, you start to stand out. Some also use compartments including hidden compartments that show what’s inside. Such compartments are good for adding some different ways to invoke the elements of surprise, and create a buzz with all of the packaging endeavors that are in place.

Making it a Real Surprise

We did mention surprises in the previous section, but there are other, worthwhile ways to make your surprise elements really stand out with your packaging.

These can include freebies and coupons, but also a QR code and other ways to scan and show the items that you have, sending customers to different places, including websites, social media, and other worthwhile locations.

Some free branded elements such as stickers and tape also add to the fun of unboxing. Putting them neatly organized with some free stuff will help to make the branding stand out, and really shine.

Making them stand out without breaking the bank

There’s a few ways to make the packaging stand out without breaking the bank or hurting the wallet. The best way to do this is through using stickers and other inserts inside. tape of course, can also be customized to fit branding colors. Feel free to use the different types of colors that will make it stand out to ensure that your packaging fits. A stamper and other small little logos that you can put on the box will in turn help with the interior of the box, and will work on corrugated materials.  You’d be surprised at the different ways you can make the interior really shine.

The best Materials for the Inside

The inside of the box also has different materials that will help make the unboxing stand out.

Tissue paper or crinkle paper as a void fill helps to present the item in a fitting way. Using compartments for different items also plays a large part in the overall presentation of such items, and makes it look even better. When it comes to materials, you’ll definitely want to also look at kraft paper and other such fibers, as these materials will help to really make it shine and stand out, especially when building the best type of packaging that you can. Overall, if you’re looking to build a packaging experience that has people hounding you for more, and will really make it exciting for all customers, then consider the interior of the box, and see for yourself just what the potential of your packaging has.

Security Tips to Prevent Item Tampering in Transit

Tampering is a big part of shipping items, especially those that are high-value goods. Prevention of this issue is important for many which are involved. Tamper-evident seals are the way to go, as they can offer a way to show you that the item is being tampered with. Labels that will change when someone’s messed with the item is also a big part of the tamper prevention tactics that are used.

Stretch films are another, as they can stretch over the item and cannot be broken, and when someone opens it, you see that they have been messed with. But there are other security tactics that are being used to show tampering of such items, and we’ll go over them here.

Smart Locks and RFID Embedding

One thing that some packaging uses is smart locking. Smart locking can only be opened with a phone or device, leaving it so that only the desired recipient can open it. RFID chips will prevent the security of such an item from being messed with, and you’ll want to consider such a measure if you’re looking to improve the prevention of such issues and tactics.

Preventing Theft of High-Value Items

While smart locks and tamper-evident materials go a long way, making it so that the item is discreet is also a good way if you’re worried about possibly breaking the bank.  Kraft boxes for instance, are one example of this type of packaging.   They are simple, not very noticeable, and can seem pretty generic. Having it so that it’s in a box that doesn’t have too many bells and whistles or attracts attention is a big thing. You should also make sure to not show that the item is high-value.  Make it seem ordinary. If you can pack it deep within, then you’ll definitely be able to improve the way it works. Finally, try not to give too much away on the packaging labels. Just have where it’s supposed to go to, and if you don’t want to say the name of the company on the return label, just put “shipping department”

Securing your Pallets

You also want to secure your pallets in the event of bulk shipment. Stretching film that can’t be messed with or has tamper evidence to it is good. seals that show someone’s messed with it can also prevent tampering of such items.

If you notice that the item might be a high target, add some covering to hide the item. Consider using corrugated materials to help with such, as it will help.

Bulk shipments might not be targeted often, but it’s something that will definitely pose a problem if you’re not careful.

Branded Tape for Items

Now, the question of brand tape does come into play. Should you use it on outer packaging, even if it means that the item might be targeted? That’s ultimately up to you. Choosing a branded tape that’s able to hide it well is good for showing the visibility of the brand so people recognize it. However, for high-ticket items, it might be better to forgo it on the outside, but keep it on the inside. alternatives to branding such as stickers, tissue paper and the like also play a big part with this.Preventing theft is a big part of packaging and prevention of temperament. By doing this, you’ll be able to bolster the security in such items, and make it stronger for your packaging needs. In turn, it will be safer, better, and well worth it for all that buy your items and are involved too.
