The Benefits of Regional Shipping Supplies

More brands are buying local.

Rather than buying some large shipping supplies from across the country or world, a lot of them are looking towards local, or regional events that you’ll be able to use. More brands are packaging on a local front for a variety of reasons.

There’s shorter lead times, which of course means less time between the packaging being ordered and getting there.it doesn’t have to go through the hoops of manufacturing and shipment for as long.

It also is more sustainable. Obviously you’re taking out a lot of the different elements that are there, and you’ll be able to save a lot of resources by shipping locally and getting it faster.

It also offers local support. Local economies are properly supported, allowing them to continue, so you don’t have to just go to a big box store. Again, the local economy also creates jobs on the local market, which you should also factor in.

The Costs Vs Speed of local Vs National

The costs of local items might be a little bit more at the beginning. After all, they aren’t chained to a brand or corporation name that’s prided for cheap items.

Take for example, your local shipping supplier versus buying from like Walmart or maybe a big box store that sells these supplies. If you’re getting custom from a big name but they’re half way across the country, you have to wait longer for it to get to you. In contrast, something that’s more local and regional will get there immediately.

As for costs, it saves on resources.  Sure you might need to pay more at first, but again, the cost of transit is going up, with oil and gas being used to power everything.   If you’re getting it local, you can go pick it up.

For smaller orders, it might be better to choose a local brand, and larger ones a larger name, but ultimately, this is up to you, and your choice at the end of the day.

Local Aesthetics for Regional Branding

The other major benefit is that you can offer local aesthetics for your regional branding.

For example, adding some crafty looks to them with this regional packaging means that you’re able to give them something unique that ultimately stands out.

The same goes for handmade. A lot of handmade items are made in a manner that’s highlighted in a local sense.  Most of these handmade goods can also include some local flair to make it really shine.

It also is good for small batches. Limited runs, or even just smaller companies and products will benefit from these local items, so if you’re looking to source locally, it might offer some extra benefits not seen before.

The challenges of Regional Sourcing

Regional items and packages are great, but it does come with a few problems and challenges that come with this.

The first and biggest one, is that it’s for smaller, more limited shipments. The materials might be more limited. Again, the limitations might work to build excitement for something rarer, but for big shipments, it might be able to handle the workload.

The same goes for capacity issues. A lot of these shipments tend to be for small runs, or maybe a test run. If you’re a brand that has some high-end stuff that might not get a ton of orders, this works. But for many practical items, the companies might not be able to keep up.

But small brands do turn to these suppliers. If you can manage it and it fits your vision, then consider adding the local economy.
